ROH TV Review - Episode 218

I haven't reviewed anything in weeks because I've been busy with life outside of pro wres, but I'm back and kicking into high gear to try to catch up on all I've missed plus all the stuff I was already behind on. I got home just in time for this week's episode of ROH TV so I decided to try to squeeze out one more review to end November.

As you can probably guess after reading that first paragraph, I sadly missed last week's episode of ROH TV where Jay Lethal and Roderick Strong went at it once again. I always seem to have the worst luck when it comes to matches involving the two considering I damn near missed their ROH World Title rematch a few months ago. This go round, I completely missed their TV Title match which saw Roddy dethrone Jay and become the champion. A well deserved achievement, I must say. I feel like Strong will do what John Cena did to the US Title and elevate it to the level of the World Title. Lethal was an amazing champion, but as far as match quality goes, I think Roddy's buzz as being one of the best wrestlers this year will take the TV Title to the next level.

This week, Adam Cole faces Dalton Castle in the main event. Kevin Kelly is joined on commentary by Nigel McGuinness & Mark Briscoe. I guess Corino really is done..

1) Adam Page (w/ BJ Whitmer & Colby Corino) vs. Will Ferrara

Speaking of Corino, his son is at ringside scheming with his mentor BJ Whitmer once again as they offer support for Adam Page. After his breakout performance against Jay Briscoe, I'm waiting on Page to break loose from The Decade. It's been well over a year now. In fact, it was at this time last year when Page was headed into a big match with Roderick Strong at Final Battle and this year, he isn't even on the card. I think he will mak an impact in some fashion however. None the less, this was enjoyable while it lasted. Whitmer throws a crutch in for Page to use, but Ferrara grabs it instead. CRUTCH TO THE HEAD OF ADAM PAGE! Ferrara picks up the surprise win. I sense Page turning on The Decade soon or at least that's what I'm hoping for.

Match rating - **1/4

Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian are at ringside for an interview with Kevin Kelly. They talk about a conspiracy against them by ROH management after losing the tag titles. Kazarian says that since ROH wants to play checkers, they'll play chess. The Addiction is taking their talents to NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING. They're currently competing there in the World Tag League as we speak and in this promo, they promise to bring home that trophy and get back in the saddle.

A video package on Adam Cole & Kyle O'Reilly is shown. And dear Lord, I don't think Adam Cole can get any more awesome. His promo here was on a complete nother level. So believable, so real. DEFINITELY take the time to see this.

They recap the issue between Cheeseburger and Brutal Bob which has been going on forever. In a YouTube exclusive before Final Battle goes on air, they face off in a grudge match.

Roderick Strong tapping out Jay Lethal is shown on the screen. This brings out the World Champion himself and WHO IS THE RED HEAD WITH HIM?! Holy shit. (I'd later find out it was Taeler Hendrix). I can't take my eyes off of her, but once Lethal gets serious, I'm finally able to focus. He goes off on AJ Styles and then calls him out. The phenomenal one obliges and makes his way to the ring. AJ says that Lethal is one of the best in the world because every week someone is calling him out, wanting what he has. AJ mentions the ironic fact that now, it's Lethal calling out AJ Styles. AJ vows to become ROH champion for the first time as they stare down. Hype segment.

Two Adam Cole promos in one show. This is too much. More good stuff slandering Kyle and building towards their match at Final Battle.

2) Adam Cole vs. Dalton Castle
Taven & Bennett are at ringside with Cole so the odds are against Castle since Silas Young still has the boys held captive. OR SO WE THOUGHT! THE BOYS RUN IN TO BACK UP CASTLE! Silas Young comes out and makes them retreat so the odds are still against Castle as far as outside interference goes. Cole & Castle wrestle for a few minutes. Castle goes for the spinning thing on the apron only to get caught in a superkick. A DQ ends up being called as The Kingdom attacks Castle. It's a 3 on 1 beatdown when WAR MACHINE MAKES THE SAVE! The crowd chants six man tag and...

3) Adam Cole, Matt Taven, & Michael Bennett (w/ Maria Kanellis) vs. Dalton Castle and War Machine (Hanson & Rowe)
WE GET IT! I was unsure about how this would go considering there was only 15 minutes left in the show, but boy oh boy, this was fantastic. Crazy brawling to start before the match settles down. Double sliding dropkick to Hanson in the corner from Taven & Bennett and he ends up getting isolated. The Kingdom works over Hanson for a while then Rowe gets the hot tag and cleans house. He's stalled only by an Adam Cole superkick to the back of the head. Dalton Castle is there for the tag though and it's ON! Awesome finishing run. Sick combinations by the new trio of War Machine & Castle, nutty tombstone piledriver reversal sequence between Taven & Castle, a bundle of near falls, this was just all around great with a hot crowd to boot. The Kingdom picks up the win after Hanson eats shit on a huge dive to the floor, Bennett spears Rowe on the apron, and then they finish off Castle.

Match rating - ***1/2
