WWE Smackdown Live Review - April 2nd, 2019

WWE Smackdown Live Review - April 2nd, 2019

The Kevin Owens show w/ AJ Styles & Randy Orton

I haven't seen anything from this feud until now, but this RULED. They went straight for the verbal kill. Orton namedropping independent wrestling and shitting on AJ's legacy. Styles responded talking about Orton failing drug tests and getting suspended. Owens gets up and leaves as the conversation intensifies. Orton & Styles get to their feet and the crowd follows suit. They start brawling and it ends with AJ going for the flying fore arm only to catch an RKO in mid-air. Short, sweet, and to the point. I hope the match at Mania matches the intensity of this segment.

1) The Usos, Ricochet, & Aleister Black vs. Sheamus, Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura, & Rusev

This had potential to be bonkers with the names involved. It was your basic tv multi-man, though. Everybody gets a tag in early then Jey Uso gets isolated. His brother gets the hot tag. Fiery minute or two that ends with Sheamus taking the pin following a double superkick.

Match rating - **1/4

Alexa Bliss ~the host of WrestleMania~ comes out post-match and announces that The Usos will defend the tag titles at WrestleMania against the three other teams from tonight's match.

The Iiconics cut a promo and vow to win the women's tag titles at Mania. OOF.

2) The Miz vs. SANITY (Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe, & Killian Dain) - Handicap Match

Miz with the pre-match promo with some good catch lines hyping up the match with Shane McMahon on Sunday. Now we've got a handicap match and hOLY crap Eric Young has gone gray. Shane comes down to watch the match and mess with Miz's head. Halfway through the match, Shane makes it Falls Count Anywhere. They end up having a pretty good brawl to the backstage/outside area to give fans a taste of what to expect from the stipulation. They battle in a thunderstorm and Miz slams EY's head in between two stage boxes and gets the win. This was some early 2000's shit.

Match rating - **3/4

Miz is celebrating his win and a cop car pulls up and BECKY LYNCH gets out of the back of it. GOD DAMN ALMIGHTY HELL.

Back from commercial, Corey Graves introduces Becky following a replay from last night.

3) 18 person tag team battle royal participant cluster fuck

We've got the Hardy brothers, Andrade, Nikki Cross, Gun & Gallows, Shelton Benjamin, Lana, Asuka, EC3 and everyone in between. I don't know who's damn idea this was but jesus christ. Jeff Hardy and EC3 get a face off to pop the TNA fans, Lacey Evans does her thing, Karl Anderson ruins R-Truth & Carmella's dance routine. It ends in DQ and they start throwing each other over the top rope. Best part of this was Asuka tossing Jeff Hardy over the top rope after they seemingly had an alliance. It seems like WWE is slowly easing everyone into the idea of intergender matches being a thing.

Match rating - *

4) Samoa Joe vs. Ali

Joe looks so good with the US Title. Much like everything else tonight, this was just filler to get to Mania. Squash for Joe.

Match rating - *1/2

Contract Signing for the WWE Championship Match

This was a good segment. Daniel Bryan tells everyone not to be complacent and a bystander like Kofi Kingston has been his whole career. A personal dig that brings Kofi out of his seat and he says that Bryan knows how this story goes and it ends with him winning the title at Mania with all the people behind him. End scene.

This was very similar to Raw, it had some solid angles/segments, but was overall just filler to get to WrestleMania.
