Commentators - Excalibur, Taz, Chris Jericho & Ricky Starks

Hello everyone. It’s a 5:30pm edition of Rampage and IM HERE. I accidentally turned to TBS instead of TNT but I realized it before missing more than a few minutes of the show.

1) Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter (w/ Rebel) vs. Ruby Soho & Toni Storm

Things start off with Storm & Hayter which was awesome considering all the interactions they’ve had recently. Plus, it’s a nice tease headed toward their first round match in the Owen. It was good. Oddly enough, Britt seemed to be a step behind the others here with everyone else keeping things moving at a nice pace from bell to bell. Britt’s still Britt, though, so her minor mechanical flaws & hesitations are easily masked by her starpower. Some nice nearfalls at the end before Storm gets the big pinfall on Britt for the win.

Match rating - **1/2

At the commentary table, Excalibur says that there’s someone calling on the phone for Chris Jericho. ITS EDDIE KINGSTON. This was fucking hilarious and something you don’t normally see weekly.

2) HOOK vs. JD Drake

Is Hook getting more swole? It looks like it. None the less, this rocks as does every HOOK squash. JD Drake is such a good hand, man. HOOK wins via redrum.

Match rating - **

After the match, Danhausen comes out. He asks HOOK to be in his corner for his match against Tony Nese. HOOK shoves Danhausen down despite the crowd chanting “Hookhausen”.. damn.

3) Riho vs. Yuka Sakazaki - Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Qualifier

YUKA SAKAZAKI WELCOME BACK WE LOVE YOU. RIHO WELCOME BACK ALSO WE LOVE YOU. You really can’t go wrong with these two. It’s just a blast from bell to bell. Sakazaki does lose, but she gets all her stuff in down the stretch so she comes out of here looking just fine. Especially when you consider the finish they went with which was a flash pin of sorts out of a striking exchange. It felt like it could’ve gone either way. Riho advances to the tournament!

Backstage.. or something, we have Shawn Spears. Spears has a lot to say to Wardlow. He says he & MJF made him feel 50 feet tall, but now they’re gonna be his kryptonite. The camera pans to a chair with “giant killer” on it as Spears walks away.

Dan Lambert, Ethan Page, & the TNT Champion Scorpio Sky are in the ring. Dan has some cheap remarks toward his own hometown before Page shifts focus to Sammy Guevara & Tay Conti. He says they aren’t gonna give them the mixed tag they wanted. Frankie Kazarian comes out in a black suit. Page immediately says he’s glad Frankie came dressed for a funeral because SCU is dead. Okay.. Ethan can be hit or miss for me, but that was good. Scorp calms things down and says he wants to bring respect back to the TNT Title. He also makes some sex-related jokes toward Tay Conti before fully focusing on his former partner Kazarian and his upcoming title defense against him. Scorp also tells Dan Lambert to put the interim TNT Title back in the trophy case. THANK GOD.

Back from commercial, Jungle Boy confronts Ricky Starks who was talking shit at the desk in regards to their FTW Title match on Wednesday.

4) Konosuke Takeshita vs. Jay Lethal (w/ Sonjay Dutt & Satnam Singh)

So happy that Takeshita made it onto TV during this excursion. His showings on Dark last year ruled and those of us who have seen his work in DDT know how much he has in the tank. Lethal wouldn’t have been my first pick for him to face, but it makes sense and is an easy way to get people behind Takeshita. The match is solid with both men being super smooth and working well together. As usual with Lethal matches, the main highlight is the final minute or two and Takeshita’s Lethal Injection counter into a vicious lariat. It’s not enough to score the victory though and Takeshita ends up falling victim soon after. A very fun showing for Soup, none the less.

Match rating - ***

After the match, Lethal continues the beatdown on Takeshita BUT CHUCK AND TRENT ARE HERE. They get eaten alive and Chuck is destroyed & choked by Singh. But still. I love those motherfuckers. Orange gets on the apron and is face to face with Singh AND HERE COMES SAMOA JOE TO EVEN THE ODDS AND GET HIM SOME. Security immediately flocks out to hold back Joe and it’s a pretty hype way to close the show. Hell yeah.
