Indy Power Rankings for the Week of April 20th

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of April 20th, 2015

#1 Drew Galloway (@GallowaySpeaks)-The multiple champion grabs his second #1 ranking in 2015 (3rd since leaving the WWE). The ICW, EVOLVE, DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate, DPW, and OCW Chamion defeated Grado and Jack Jester on 4/18 to retain the ICW Title and then defeating Jack Jester and Sabu on 4/19 to retain the title again. With a 2-0 record, his recent success and title collecting a few of those who had more wins than him on the week. He has won 10 of his last 11 matches outside of TNA, which is absolutely phenomenal considering the types of matches he’s put in week in and week out. What’s next for one of the best in the world?

#2 Daisuke Sekimoto-Five victories equals a very high ranking for the Big Japan bad ass. The Strong World Heavyweight Champion and 1/2 of KO-D Tag Team Champions; teamed with Yuji Okabayashi at BJW on 4/14 to defeat Hideyoshi Kamitani and Ryuichi Kawakami, then teamed with Hideyoshi Kamitani at BJW on 4/15 to beat Manabu Soya and Ryuichi Kawakami, then teamed with Yuji Okabayashi at BJW on 4/17 to beat Hideyoshi Kamitano & Masato Inaba, then teamed with Yuji Okabayashi on 4/18 at BJW to defeat Atsushi Maruyama & Shinobu, and then teamed with Yuji Okabayashi & Yuko Miyamoto on 4/19 at BJW to beat Hideyoshi Kamitani, Kazuki Hashimoto & Ryuichi Kawakami to go 5-0 for the week. Even with the multiple victories, it wasn’t enough to grab the #1 spot, BUT keep in mind, they were all tag victories. A few single victories and he’ll be right back into contention for #1.

#3 Davey Richards (@RichardsWesley)-Nice to see the former ROH World Champion return to the Indy Power Rankings after being away from “the indies” last year and not garnering a ranking or a spot in the IPR 100. On 4/17 he defeated Johnny Gargano at EVOLVE, then defeated Trevor Lee at EVOLVE on 4/18, and then teamed with Roderick Strong to defeat Team Tremendous on 4/19 at 2CW to go 3-0 on the week. Davey Richards was the poster boy for the indies a few years ago. With this ranking, might he be returning to that spot in the future?

#4 Jun Akiyama-A 4-0 week gets this Japanese star a ranking in the Top 10 for the very first time. Hard to believe someone who has been as good as him has not made the Top 10 before, but this week was a truly special one for him. He defeated Kenso at AJPW on 4/13, then teamed with Sushi on 4/17 to defeat Kotaro Suzuki & Yohei Nakajima, then defeated Zeus on 4/18, and then teamed with Takao Omori & SUSHI at AJPW on 4/19 to beat Kento Miyahara, Kotaro Suzuki & Yohei Nakajima to wrap up a flawless week in Japan.

#5 Victor Andrews (@Im_MrEverything)-You may have seen him a lot in tags previously, but this is actually his first official ranking in singles. The NSW Social Media Champion and 1/2 of PWF Tag Team Champions teamed with James Anthony at PWF on 4/17 to defeat The Geordie Bulldogs to retain their PWF tag titles, then defeated Chris Taylor at NSW to retain the NSW Social Media title on 4/18, and then defeated Ricky Kelly at PPW on 4/18 to go 3-0 for the week. While it was his partner James Anthony that got much of the singles success last year, perhaps 2015 will be owned by Victor Andrews. GREAT first ranking for him.

#6 Jax Dane (@TheJaxDane)-The NWA National Heavyweight Champion and NWA North American Heavyweight Champion defeated Gavin Daring at NWA Smoky Mountain on 4/17 and then defeated Chase Owens, Jason Kincaid, Jeff Connelly, Shawn Shultz and Vince Brent the same night to win the Smoky Mountain Cup. This was obviously a week of firsts for multiple competitors as this is Jax’s first singles ranking despite a lot of success this year. The Smoky Mountain Cup holds a lot of weight to the official voters which most definitely swayed their opinions as to what Jax Dane accomplished over the weekend. With 6 straight victories, he is on a roll right now.

#7 Joe Coffey (@Joe_Coffey)-He is the NEW Target Wrestling Heavyweight Champion (and WrestleZone Champion and 1/2 of W3L Tag Team Champions) after he defeated T-Bone on 4/17 to win the title, then defeated Al Snow on 4/18 to retain the title, and then finished off the weekend when he defeated Marty Scurll & Jack Gallagher in a three-way match at ICW UK on 4/19 to go 3-0 for the week. While he has received votes earlier in the year, this is his first official ranking. Congratulations to this rising UK star!

#8 Atlantis-The El Cinturón Azteca Champion and WWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Champion  teamed with Místico and Volador Jr. at CMLL on 4/13 to beat Ephesto, El Mephisto and Shocker, then teamed with Dragón Lee and La Máscara on 4/14 to beat Kamaitachi, Rey Bucanero and Damián el Terrible, then teamed with Delta and Guerrero Maya Jr. on 4/19 to defeat Los Guerreros Laguneros (Euforia, Gran Guerrero and Niebla Roja) then teamed with Delta and Guerrero Maya Jr. again the same night to defeat Los Hijos del Infierno (Ephesto, Luciferno and El Mephisto) in a #1 contenders match to go 4-0 for the week. The international influence on the Indy Power Rankings once again rears its head as we have representatives from all over the world in the Top 10 this week.

#9 Dean Draven-Australia once again comes hard as the AWF Australasian Champion defeated Jake Nova on 4/18 to retain the title, then defeated Spaceman Dacey the same day to retain again, then on 4/19 he defeated Kyote to retain the title, then teamed with TNT to defeat Slammin' Sam & Thirteen the same day to go 4-0 for the week. Fantastic weekend for him as Australia just continues to churn out a lot of great competitors that end up in the Indy Power Rankings based on their performances. One thing that has NOT happened yet is a #1 ranking to come from Australia. Maybe soon?

#10 Kongo Kong (@RealKongoKong)-In Kong we Trust? IWA Mid-South’s hiatus has affected a lot of talent and perhaps none more so than the IWA World Champion. The former #1 went 5-1 on the week as he went 4-0 at the TV Tapings in North Carolina over the weekend, then lost a Triple Threat Match (where he wasn’t pinned) at AWE on 4/18, then defeated Krimson at JCW on 4/19 to go 5-1 for the week. “The Monsta” has been so impressive over the last 2 years that it’s almost a shock when he’s not in the Top1 0, but he returns this week with a vengeance. With him already being VERY high in this year’s IPR 100, you can expect more from this beast of a man.

Honorable Mention. Santana Garrett (@BrittanyTNA)-SHINE Champion (and NWA Women's Champ/Ring Warriors Women's Champ) defeated Andrea at EVOLVE on 4/18 to retain the SHINE Title. She has won 22 straight matches.

People’s Champ. “The Future” Eddy Young (@The_Future_Eddy)-Any time you see Eddy Young on the poll you know he’s going to collect a lot of votes. This week he collected 130 votes to edge out The Choff for the People’s Champ award this week, denying him of his second win in the online voting competition. Eddy Young has disappeared for a bit, but we expect him to find his groove again and if so, you’ll see much more of him as he dominates online voting competitions like no one else.
