AEW Dynamite Review - November 25th, 2020

AEW Dynamite
November 25th, 2020
Daily’s Place
Jacksonville, FL

Commentators - Jim Ross, Excalibur & Tony Schiavone

Okay this is almost 2 weeks old now but I missed it and I have to finish it for completion’s sake so fuck off

1) Hangman Page vs. John Silver

Big Meltz gave this four stars which is crazy, but this did in fact rule. These two are honestly kinda similar in style, not the biggest guys, although Page is taller, however they hit super hard and they threw some bombs here. Honestly everything you could want out of a sprint between these two while also teasing the possibility of Page joining Dark Order.

Match rating - ***1/4

Kenny Omega is backstage with Alex Marvez. Omega says Moxley needs to leave the garbage wrestling at home next week if he really wants to prove himself as the best. Omega also says Mox’s life story warms his heart but that his dad “would probably beat the shit out of your dad” DAMNNNNN. I love Omega so much.

Darby Allin vignette with him blowing up a car and saying that Team Taz will survive if he lets them.

2) Powerhouse Will Hobbs (w/ Taz) vs. Lee Johnson
Last week, Will Hobbs shocked the world when he turned on Cody Rhodes & Darby Allin and joined Team Taz alongside Brian Cage & Ricky Starks. He’s now changed his name to Powerhouse Hobbs and he squashed Lee Johnson here with Taz talking loads of shit on commentary.

Taz comes to the ring holding Cage’s FTW title. He tells Hobbs great job and that Cage & Starks are out celebrating last week and him joining Team Taz. Taz says Hobbs can go celebrate too because he has some business he needs to handle on his own. And BOY OH FUCKJNG BOY. This was fucking nuts. Taz basically wants someone from management to come out and put some respect on the FTW Title because they continuously disregard him and it. They cut Taz’s mic off a time or two before Cody comes out from gorilla. They really worked this super well as a shoot. Cody gets in the ring and tries to take the easy way out and Taz calls him out on his “corporate bullshit” and Cody gets pissed and asks if the FTW Title is so important, why is Taz’s son training with him and not his own dad!!!! AHHH. Taz talks off the mic and says “you went too far, I can’t believe you did that.” Taz goes to leave but instead locks Cody in the tazmission. LOVED THIS. Billy & Austin Gunn come in to check on Cody as Taz leaves with his soon Hook.

Eddie Kingston is backstage and says since PAC went away for eight months a lot has changed as the king is here now. Jon Moxley walks up and Aahhh. I loved this. Callback to their feud but also Mox insinuating Eddie is who attacked him last week without having to say it. Eddie immediately says it wasn’t him and his focus is on other shit. Mox seems to believe him and walks off. I love that they touched on this as a possibility.

3) Top Flight (Dante & Darius Martin) vs. TH2 (Jack Evans & Angelico)

This match really had quite the heated build up in the span of a week. The obvious was TH2 attacking Top Flight after their match with the Bucks last week. Then on Twitter, Angelico & Evans made comments about how hard they had to work to get where they are whereas all Top Flight had to do was send a Twitter DM. This makes a match that was already gonna be pretty exciting due to the athleticism actually have some heat behind it. It also allowed us to see a little different side of Top Flight as this wasn’t an exhibition and was an actual heel/face dynamic with some backstory. The crowd was really into everything to match what they pulled off also. Angelico ends up forcing Martin to tap and then refuses to break after the bell. Jack joins him in stomping the leg of Martin.

In the midst of this assault, the YOUNG BUCKS RUN DOWN AND MAKE THE SAVE. I love seeing the Bucks in a role mentoring a team that is more similar to them than any other I’ve seen.

Vickie Guerrero and Nyla Rose are backstage to give us a lesson on nepotism. They talk about last week and send a message to Brandi Rhodes about what happened and their relation with Jade Cargill.

FTR say their match with the Bucks may have been one of the best tag matches of all time, but it was the most embarrassing night of their lives. They said The Bucks were better than them for 3 seconds. They put over how much being the tag champions mean to them and such. I enjoyed this vignette more than anything FTR has done recently.

4) Chris Jericho & Jake Hager vs. Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian

At one point years ago, Chris Jericho vs. Christopher Daniels would have been a HUGE dream match so I’m happy to see them going at it for the first time ever here and that it was recognized as such. Admittedly the match was a whole was just ok though and I honestly kinda zoned out after the beginning. Seeing the new Inner Circle all at ringside was cool and a lot of fun though. Jericho & Hager and remain undefeated as a team.

Match rating - **

Backstage, Orange Cassidy interrupts Miro, Kip Sabian & Penelope Ford.

Kenny Omega heads to the ring for the contract signing with Jon Moxley. Moxley attacks Omega in the entrance way as payback for last week and proceeds to cut an awesome promo on how Omega only gets one shot and he better not miss. The build for this match has been amazing.

5) Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Anna Jay - AEW Women’s World Title Match

I hate that the women's division has so little buzz right now. All these title matches just feel so thrown together. Match isn't bad. Anna Jay uses a kendo stick for a near fall. Shida comes back and hits her finisher to retain.

Match rating - **1/4

ABADON shows up post-match and Shida looks scared as hell.

Ricky Starks is with Brian Cage & Hobbs. Starks says Cody has crossed the line with what he said earlier. This feud is developing well. Starks is amazing on the mic.

6) The Butcher & The Blade (w/ The Bunny) vs. PAC & Rey Fenix (w/ Penta El Cero M)

Eddie Kingston is on commentary. Last week, we saw Fenix & Penta officially separate from Kingston, Butcher, & Blade to reunite with their Death Triangle partner PAC. That's what leads us here to this match that I honestly don't remember much from. All I know is it was nice to see PAC again and he & Fenix bust out some crazy stuff here. The fun ends however when Eddie Kingston gets involved and costs Fenix & PAC the match.

Match rating - **1/2

Afterwards, Lance Archer comes down and cleans house on Kingston, Butcher, & Blade. Apparently Kingston & Archer have an issue that has spanned a few weeks. I guess that's a Dark thing? Or something I missed? Also guess Archer is baby face now. Not hating, just pointing out what went through my head. He got a good reaction and it was a nice chaotic way to close this show out with Archer standing tall as King, Butcher, & Blade retreat through the crowd. King/Archer should be a sick match when it happens!
