ROH TV Review - May 3rd, 2014

ROH TV Review - May 3rd, 2014

1) Tommaso Ciampa vs. Roderick Strong

What a wonderful way to start the show. Both Strong and Ciampa are hard hitters so this was a very enjoyable match. Ciampa is one of the most promising young stars in ROh and it showed once again here. He put on outstanding match with the veteran Strong. Adam Page accompanied Strong to the ring and ended up being an important factor in the match as he interfered, but received a stiff kick to the head from Ciampa. Cedric Alexander ran down and nailed Strong in the head while the ref was distracted allowing Ciampa to get the victory.

Match rating - 8/10

After the match, Strong called Cedric Alexander back to the ring only for Alexander to get the upper hand once again. Alexander then cut a promo saying he will beat Strong at Global Wars. Great segment. Loving the feud between these two. This whole Decade thing is brilliant. Alexander is the future of Ring of Honor.

2) Romantic Touch vs. Silas Young

Romantic Touch is easily my least favorite ROH wrestler, but I've really been impressed with Silas Young lately. That was the case here as Romantic Touch put in a good performance, but his gimmick is still annoying. Despite that, he put on a good match with Young. The commentators mentioned that Young wanted a higher spot on the card so hopefully this is the beginning of a push for him. He certainly deserves it. Silas Young is a very talented individual. His "Last Real Man in Pro Wrestling" gimmick is brilliant.

Match rating - 6/10

They showed a video package for Adam Cole and Kevin Steen's upcoming match for the ROH World Title that needs to be mentioned. It was awesome. I'm a big fan of both guys and this video package made me even more excited for the match. If you haven't seen it, I highly suggest taking a look at it. Especially if you're a fan of either guy.

Also featured on the show tonight was a segment where Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish discussed The Young Bucks. It was an enjoyable and funny segment. I'm excited for the rematch between the two teams. It's bound to be great just like their first encounter.

3) Corey Hollis vs. Jimmy Jacobs

Here we have another young ROH star facing off against a member of The Decade. This was a really good match that featured some awesome moments such as Jacobs sitting Hollis in a chair on the outside of the ring then diving over the top rope out of the ring onto him. Jacobs and Hollis put on a solid match here. Beyond the match, the storyline development was excellent as Tadarius Thomas appeared alongside Jimmy Jacobs with a Decade shirt on. It looks like The Decade now has two young stars in their squad.

Match rating - 7/10

4) Michael Elgin vs. Rocky Romero

Before Elgin faces the IWGP Champion in a few weeks, he faced off against another New Japan Pro Wrestling opponent here in Rocky Romero. This was a very competitive match that started off with a bang as Romero sent Elgin to the outside and delivered a flying knee off the apron. Really good match and TV main event. Elgin scores the victory and gains some more momentum going into his match at Global Wars next weekend!

Match rating - 7.5/10

Overall thoughts:
Another good episode of Ring of Honor television. The highlight for me was the same as last week - The Decade. The storyline continues to be one of the most intriguing programs in wrestling. Atleast for me. With the way things have been booked the past few weeks, it looks as if ROH is building towards a 5 on 5 match eventually pitting The Decade - Roderick Strong, Jimmy Jacobs, BJ Whitmer, Adam Page, Tadarius Thomas against Cedric Alexander, ACH, Tomasso Ciampa, Andrew Everett, and Corey Hollis. Really hope that happens because all ten men are extremely talented which is why this storyline has been so vast and great.

Besides that story, the World Title picture is phenomenal right now. Adam Cole continues to be great and Kevin Steen coming back into the main event scene has been wonderful. The video package that aired tonight was outstanding. So hyped for their match!

The main event was a solid way to end the show. Elgin has alot of momentum going into his match at Global Wars against the IWGP Champion. Overall really good show from ROH tonight. I'd recommend checking it out if you missed it.
