ROH TV Review - July 26th, 2014

ROH TV Review - July 26th, 2014

After nearly three months, I'm back with a review of ROH's weekly TV show. I haven't reviewed ROH TV in recent weeks because they've been replaying matches from their War of the Worlds and Global Wars events. This week, ROH TV returns with some fresh content that was filmed during the first date on their summer heat tour in Dearborn, Michigan.

The tag team division is the focus of tonight's show as the ROH World Tag Team Champions Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish will be in action and there will also be a big four corner survival match to determine the new #1 Contender's to the ROH Tag Team Titles.

1) ReDragon (Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish) vs. Monster Mafia (Ethan Gabriel Owens & Joshua Alexander)
I've heard alot about the Monster Mafia so it was nice to finally see them compete. They are still fairly new to ROH and they certainly had their work cut out for them here against the ROH Tag Champions, ReDragon. The Mafia impressed me here as they took the fight to ReDragon early on. Alexander even stood toe to toe in a striking battle with
O'Reilly and came out on top with a stiff elbow to the side of the head. THAT was impressive. Not many people can go strike for strike with Kyle. Despite being on the defense for alot of the match, ReDragon fought back and proved why they are the tag champs by gaining the victory here after hitting their finishing move, Chasing The Dragon, on Owens. Great action packed opening match. I hope we see more of Monster Mafia in ROH in the future. They definitely impressed me here and gave the tag champs a run for their money. You can't ask for a better opening match than this.

Match rating - 7/10

2) Moose vs. Hakim Zane
Moose is a former NFL star who recently signed to Ring of Honor. He made his first appearance with the company on their live PPV debut, Best In The World, but this was his first actual match in ROH. I was interested to see how he would do considering he's a former football star and he did really good here. This was a nice showcase for him as he got to show his power along with his agility. Short match with Moose picking up the dominant victory.

3) Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian vs. The Briscoes vs. Roderick Strong & Jimmy Jacobs vs. Hanson & Rowe - Four Corner Survival #1 Contender's Match for the ROH World Tag Team Titles
This was the really good match that you would expect from these four teams. Each team got their chance to show what they could do. From Hanson & Rowe proving they could hang with the veterans in this match to Daniels & Kazarian proving they still had what it takes to be successful in ROH - everybody here put in a good showing. The outcome was surprising to me as Daniels & Kaz pick up the win and will challenge ReDragon for the titles once again. While this was a surprise, I was happy with the outcome because their match at Best In The World was awesome and I can only imagine how much better their next match will be since they've been in the ring with each other before. None the less, this was a good tag team main event with all four teams getting a chance to shine!

Match rating - 7/10

Overall thoughts: Solid show from ROH tonight. The tag team division was the sole focus and it was very enjoyable seeing the tag team division get showcased during most of the hour. ReDragon proved why they deserve to be tag champs by fending off a new team, but that new team (Monster Mafia) also showed why they deserve to be in ROH. In the main event, we saw the four top tag teams in ROH go at it for a shot at ReDragon's tag team titles in what was an entertaining four corner survival bout. Good showing from ROH tonight and a wonderful glimpse at their outstanding tag team division!
