WWE Battleground 2014 Predictions & Analysis

WWE Battleground 2014 Predictions & Analysis

It seems like just yesterday we were discussing Money In The Bank, but now the month of July is coming to an end and it's time for Battleground. The card looks very promising with several matches that I'm personally looking forward to. The majority of the matches have been built very well and it looks to be a great PPV. I also think there will be a shocking surpise which you will read about later on in this article. So without further a due, let's get into my predictions for the show.

Pre-Show Match: Naomi vs. Cameron

As a big advocate for Naomi, I was excited when she & Cameron broke up. Naomi is an impressive athlete with the potential to be Divas Champion in the future while Cameron is mediocre in the ring at best. With that being said, I'm glad this match is on the pre show because I don't personally think Cameron is ready for PPV. I think Naomi will pick up the win here and begin her march towards a run with the Divas Title. Hopefully she can pull a decent performance out of Cameron along the way.

Who I think will win: Naomi

1) Luke Harper & Erick Rowan vs. The Usos - 2/3 Falls Match for the WWE Tag Team Titles
In all honesty, this is the match I'm most looking forward to. The two teams have had numerous encounters of the past few months, but they are always awesome. The 2/3 Falls stipulation makes this even more of a draw

for me. I hope they give these guys around 30 minutes to work with so they can create the classic that they are capable of creating. I fully expect Harper & Rowan to win the tag titles here. I doubt the two teams would clash again just for The Usos to retain. They've had a good run as champions, but I think now is the time to put some gold around the waists of Harper & Rowan.

Who I think will win: Luke Harper & Erick Rowan

2) Jack Swagger vs. Rusev
As an avid Swagger fan for many years, seeing him get the reaction he did for confronting Rusev was so awesome. I actually predicated that the feud between these two should happen a week or so before it got started, so I'm excited for this one as you would expect. I just hope that WWE doesn't go the typical route and make this a squash. This is a feud with alot of emotion and steam behind it. For that reason, it should last through SummerSlam atleast. I expect WWE is wanting to put Rusev over Swagger, but I don't think that should happen just yet. Have Swagger win here and break Rusev's streak which makes Rusev an even more pissed off giant. Rusev will then have even more reason to go after Swagger because he ruined his undefeated run. THAT is how it should be booked, let's hope WWE doesn't make this squash and we got a quality encounter from these two as well as several more weeks of epic confrontations and promos from Zeb & Lana.

Who I think will win: Jack Swagger

3) AJ Lee vs. Paige - Divas Championship Match
And here we have a dream match for fans of women's wrestling. These ladies are arguably the best two female wrestlers on the roster and are capable of putting on a classic. I hope they get a solid 15 minutes to show what they can do. Many probably expect AJ to retain here which I think that will happen too, but I'm hoping for something a little more intricate. I'd have Tamina come down and cost AJ the title. Thus aligning Tamina with Paige. Ever since Paige defeated Tamina at Extreme Rules, Tamina hasn't been seen which is a shame. She's a talented woman and deserves some air time. I think this would be the perfect move as it would add more depth to the storyline between Paige and AJ, it would also ultimately result in a triple threat match between all three women for the Divas Title. The story could be that Tamina always had AJ's back and helped her keep the title, but AJ was nowhere to be found when she got a title match. I don't think this will happen, but I hope it does.

Who I think will win: AJ Lee

Who I think SHOULD win: Paige (with assistance from Tamina)

4) 20 Man Battle Royal for the Intercontinental Championship
I originally expected Cesaro to win this, but his recent problems with Kofi & Big E have led me to believe that he won't. I would think that they'd book Cesaro more dominant going into the match if he was going to win UNLESS they are setting up for Cesaro to feud with Big E & Kofi over the belts in the future. BUT Paul Heyman wasn't with Cesaro on Raw to boast about him potentially winning so this is really a hard one to predict. I'm torn between Cesaro and Dolph Ziggler. I feel it will be one or the other. After some hard thinking, I'm going to go with Cesaro. I originally thought it would be Ziggler if Heyman had left Cesaro, but it seems like the two are still together so I'm going with Cesaro here.

Who I think will win: Cesaro

5) Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins
I'm extremely excited for this match. After the highly acclaimed series of matches these two had in FCW that I've yet to see, I'm dying to see them clash. Thankfully, we all will get to see it this Sunday. Along with the tag team title match, I expect this bout to steal the show. The action will be fast, furious & just plain awesome, but the emotion and intensity of this story is what will push it over the top. As for who will win, I'm gonna with Rollins scoring a cheap victory over Ambrose. I hope it's not too screwy though. I think this will happen because there is money in Ambrose, who is the hottest face in the company, trying to get revenge on the top heel. It's a simple story, but it works. None the less, I think Rollins wins here and I hope the rematch at SummerSlam will be a Ladder Match for the MITB briefcase.

Who I think will win: Seth Rollins

6) Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho
This is a tough one to predict. I'm expecting this feud to last atleast through SummerSlam, so the question is - will Bray Wyatt score two straight victories over Chris Jericho? There are two possible outcomes here. One is that Jericho wins clean and the other is that Wyatt wins in cheap fashion. I think one of those two will happen, I don't see Wyatt winning clean over Jericho just yet. In the final match in the feud, I could see Wyatt going over clean, but this rivalry is just getting started so I think Wyatt will win in cheap fashion here. I could be wrong about whether it's a dirty or clean victory, but I think somehow Bray Wyatt will be victorious.

Who I think will win: Bray Wyatt

7) John Cena vs. Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton vs. Kane - WWE Championship Match
On the surface some may think the outcome of this is simple - John Cena retains. While I agree that the match itself is pretty predictable, I don't think the action will be over after the final bell sounds. If you read my article on WrestlingHeads.com earlier this week, you will know what I'm referring to. You can check it out here if you missed it. Either way, I'll go ahead and expand on my previous statement. I think we will see Seth Rollins attempt to cash in the Money In The Bank contract, but won't be able to. Whether Kane or Orton turns on him and stops him or whether Ambrose or Reigns stops him - somebody will prevent Rollins from cashing in. This will lead to Triple H needing a Plan C. And don't forget who mentioned a Plan C to Triple H on Raw - Paul Heyman. I think Triple H will call for Plan C to be executed and that plan is Brock Lesnar. What will Lesnar do? I think at the least, he will beat the living hell out of John Cena. Cena isn't advertised to be on Raw the night after the PPV, so it's obvious something is going to happen. Most people are expecting a Lesnar beatdown and while I'm expecting that too. I think there's going to be more to what happens here. Earlier in the week, I detailed a plan that saw Lesnar walk out of Battleground as WWE Champion and I still think that may take place. Triple H calls for Plan C. Heyman brings out Lesnar. Triple H starts an impromptu title match and Lesnar wins the WWE title. This is a logical outcome because WWE loves to make Cena the underdog AND it will give Lesnar a longer title reign than he would have if they waited to put the title on him at SummerSlam. The only problem with this idea is that it may not be the right call considering Lesnar is coming off breaking Undertaker's streak and he needs to look strong. Some will say that Lesnar beating a guy who just competed in a Fatal 4 Way Match would make him look weak and while I understand that point of a view, I still think this would be a good call to make. Lesnar becoming champion out of nowhere would create a lot of buzz and bring in a ratings increase for Raw tomorrow night, which is something that WWE loves - attention. So my prediction is this - John Cena wins the WWE Championship Match, but Brock Lesnar walks out as the WWE Champion.
