WWE SummerSlam 2014 Predictions & Analysis

WWE SummerSlam 2014 Predictions
It's hard to believe that a whole year has passed since last year's epic SummerSlam event. Last year's edition of SummerSlam will go down as one of my all time favorites. The hype surrounding it was tremendous and it's a show I can go back and watch time and time again.

Unfortunately, that same hype surrounding last year's show isn't really there this year. The card is promising, the hype is the only thing really missing.  I'm not going to harp on that fact however, I'm just going to hope WWE proves me wrong and delivers a better show than I'm expecting.

Pre-Show Match: Rob Van Dam vs. Cesaro

Last year at SummerSlam, Rob Van Dam was on the pre-show facing off against Dean Ambrose in a pretty good match that unfortunately ended in a DQ finish. This year Van Dam faces off against another rising star, Cesaro. I'm expecting this to be a good match as these two have faced off in the past and they were all solid encounters. I expect Cesaro to come out on top here.

Who I think will win - Cesaro

1) The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler - Intercontinental Championship Match
Ironically, next to the main event, this is the match I'm most looking forward to on Sunday. The match these two had on Raw a few weeks ago was fantastic and
with them now getting a chance to go at it on PPV, I expect it to be even better. The audience is so into everything Dolph Ziggler does that it makes every match he's in have a big time feel. With that being said, I think this bout could be a sleeper on the card. As for who will win, it's a tough pick. I don't think that WWE would take the title off The Miz this soon, but I honestly think it's the right move. Ziggler is one of the most popular stars on the roster and has been working hard all year producing quality matches against the likes of Batista, Wade Barrett, and numerous others. I think WWE has finally realized that and will put the IC Title on him here as a reward for his hard work. Atleast we can hope that's what they do.

Who I think will win - Dolph Ziggler

2) Paige vs. AJ Lee - Divas Championship Match
So far the feud between these two has been lackluster as far as match quality goes, but I think they have the opportunity to create something great here if given the time. Both women are very good in the ring so I'm expecting that to be showcased as they face off for the second time. I really think Paige should win this match, but I've got the feeling that AJ is going to pick up the victory here.

Who I think will win - AJ Lee

3) Jack Swagger vs. Rusev - Flag Match
I've been a big supporter of Swagger for many years and it's nice to finally see him getting so popular with the WWE Universe. The feud between these two has been gold so far and I expect this match to continue that trend. I think Swagger will pick up the victory here and the feud will continue. I'm guessing the flag match stipulation was added so Swagger could get a win over Rusev without pinning him so he could technically remain undefeated. Pretty smart idea. With that being said, I've got Swagger going over Rusev here.

Who I think will win - Jack Swagger

4) Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins - Lumberjack Match
This is a match that I was really looking forward to until WWE slapped that damn lumberjack stipulation on it. Yes, it makes sense storyline wise, but why make the first match in this feud a lumberjack match? Let them go at it in a normal bout first. Despite this bout losing some steam because of the stipulation, I still expect it to be quite good. I think Ambrose will pick up the win here. Rollins has nothing to lose as he's gonna be the Money In The Bank briefcase holder regardless, so it wouldn't hurt him to lose. But speaking of the Money In The Bank briefcase, I think we may see a Ladder Match between these two for it at Night of Champions next month, it'd be the next logical step in the feud so let's hope WWE does it.

Who I think will win - Dean Ambrose

5) Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton
This is a very interesting match. It's going to be interesting to see if Orton can carry Reigns to a top notch PPV match up because as seen in his recent singles matches, Reigns isn't a guy who can carry a match himself. In fact, Reigns' best singles match thus far has been against Alberto Del Rio who made him look like a million bucks. Can Orton do the same and make this match remotely good? That's the real question because it's obvious who's going to win this. The Roman Reigns hype train continues to build with a victory here.

Who I think will win - Roman Reigns

6) Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella
The build towards this match has been great aside from this past week's episode of Raw where it just got corny. I don't expect this match to be good at all, but atleast it's got a nice story behind it. I think Stephanie will pick up the win here after Nikki Bella turns on her sister and costs her the match.

Who I think will win - Stephanie McMahon

7) Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt
So far, the feud between these two has been a bit lackluster. It hasn't been bad by any means, but it definitely hasn't been as amazing as I anticipated. Last week's one on one segment that aired on Raw was easily the best segment thus far in the feud so hopefully they momentum will lead them to an outstanding match this Sunday. This match is actually probably the easiest one on the card to predict. Jericho won the last match and since I expect this to be the final bout in the feud, I see Bray Wyatt going over.

Who I think will win - Bray Wyatt

8) John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar - WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match
I honestly believe this match could go either way. Lesnar is the logical choice since he's coming off breaking the streak, but WWE has been known to go against logic on many occasions. Plus Cena is their golden boy. And with all the financial troubles going on with WWE right now, do you think Vince would want to take the title off his favorite guy and risk putting it on someone else? It's a tough question to answer, but it's definitely something to consider when trying to predict who will win this match up. On top of that, house shows are advertising Rollins vs. Cena for the WWE Title after SummerSlam - that adds even more speculation to how things will turn out. I'm honestly split 50/50 on this one, but after some thinking, I'm gonna go with Brock Lesnar, but be sure to read the next paragraph because there is more to my prediction than you think.

Who I think will win - Brock Lesnar

With Rollins/Cena for the title being scheduled for house shows, that may lead many people to believe that Cena will win, but I think it's a swerve. As I said above, I think Brock Lesnar will defeat John Cena to become the new WWE Champion at SummerSlam. On Raw, the next night, I expect to hear some boasting from Heyman & Lesnar about him becoming champion. Possibly even a championship celebration ceremony or something. So let's go with that and say it's the last segment on Raw. Well, Lesnar comes out and Heyman proclaims him to be the permanant WWE World Heavyweight Champion because no one can beat him. Heyman says if Taker and Cena can't - who can? All of a sudden everyone hears someone say "I can." It's Cesaro! Cesaro heads to the ring and says he can beat Lesnar. Heyman tries to get Cesaro to leave to avoid trouble. Cesaro says he also came out to say how much of a scumbag Paul Heyman is for leaving him high and dry just to be a lackey for Brock Lesnar. Lesnar gets in Cesaro's face and they staredown. When out of nowhere Cesaro strikes Brock with a huge uppercut that sends him to the mat! Cesaro beats down Lesnar and ends up hitting the neutralizer on him. Cesaro then chases Heyman out of the arena. Lesnar is left laying alone in the center of the ring after a vicious beating from Cesaro. Just as Raw is about to go off the air, Seth Rollins' music hits! Rollins is cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase!  As Lesnar is making his way to his feet, Rollins nails him with a curb stomp and 1..2..3! Seth Rollins is the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion!

That's how I think it should be booked and I honestly have a feeling that we may see something similar to what I detailed above. It accomplishes so many things all at once. WWE is rumored to want to push Cesaro as a major babyface during the fall and him flooring Lesnar would turn him into a crowd favorite instantly. At Night of Champions, Cesaro would face Lesnar, but lose thanks to interference from Paul Heyman. This leads to Hell in A Cell Match between Lesnar and Cesaro in which Cesaro defeats Lesnar and becomes the first person to beat him cleanly since he broke the streak. After that, Cesaro can go after Seth Rollins' WWE Championship with the claim that Rollins didn't beat Lesnar, Cesaro beat Lesnar and that Rollins picked up the scraps. It's the perfect story. Having Rollins is cash in is the perfect role for his character. A sly heel that always finds a cheap way of getting what he wants. Despite Lesnar being a heel, fans will still dislike Rollins for doing it because he didn't earn it, he took advantage of Cesaro's hard work. Have Cesaro and Rollins feud over the title throughout the fall with Cesaro finally winning the title at the TLC PPV.

I'm getting a bit off track here by booking the remainder of the year for Cesaro and Rollins, but that's just the super fan inside of me. Let's get back to the point.

I'm gonna make the bold prediction that the plan I detailed in the first paragraph of this post-SummerSlam discussion will happen. Lesnar wins at SummerSlam, Cesaro attacks him on Raw the night after, Seth Rollins takes advantage, cashes in, and becomes the new WWE Champion.

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. It would explain the Rollins/Cena match being made for house shows after SummerSlam because Rollins' first opponent would be Cena since he deserves a rematch for the title and Lesnar will be feuding with Cesaro. This also goes along with the rumors that WWE wants to majorly push Cesaro as a babyface in the latter part of this year. It's the perfect opportunity for them to accomplish so much. If they're smart this is what they will do.

So, there you have it. My predictions for this year's SummerSlam PPV. What do you think? Is my prediction for the main event too far fetched? Do you agree/disagree? Comment or Tweet me your thoughts @StylesClashx on Twitter! Thanks for reading!
